The Observatory is an academic committee manned by lecturers and students. Four lecturers are appointed by the Aerospace Engineering Academic Council; students are appointed by the Chair of the by AC under recommendation of the student body. The Observatory committee lecturers remain in office for 3 years.

The committee duties involve:

• organising a permanent observatory on academic activities functions
• examining the efficacy of the decisions made by the AC and the School of AE regarding the quality of the teachings and services provided
• preparing proposals aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of academic services
• support the Quality Committee in drafting the annual self-assessment reports.
